Completion of Bodo-Bonny Road Transforms Access for Bonny Island
The Bodo-Bonny Road, a significant infrastructure project, has been completed, linking Bonny Island to Nigeria's mainland. This development reduces transportation costs, enhances trade, and improves emergency response capabilities, marking a critical shift in the region's economic landscape.

The Bodo-Bonny Road, measuring 37.9 kilometers, connects Bonny Island to the mainland via Bodo in Rivers State. Constructed through a public-private partnership between the Federal Government and Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), the road was initiated in the 1950s, with significant financing provided by NLNG under a tax-credit arrangement.
The completion has drastically reduced transportation costs from ₦15,000 to ₦5,000 per trip to Port Harcourt, while also improving logistics and trade efficiency with daily truck deliveries replacing previous reliance on maritime routes. The project has also enhanced emergency response capabilities, providing a reliable land evacuation route.
Continued security measures remain in place, reflecting the strategic importance of Bonny as an oil and gas hub. The successful completion of this project highlights effective collaboration among government, private sector, and local communities.
