Concerns Raised Over Non-Transparent Pumped Storage Projects in Andhra Pradesh
Legal and environmental issues are emerging around pumped storage projects in Andhra Pradesh, involving private entities like Adani Group. EAS Sarma calls for a central investigation to address potential corruption and legal breaches.

Pumped storage projects (PSPs) in Andhra Pradesh have raised significant legal and environmental concerns due to non-transparent dealings involving private companies, including the Adani Group. Currently, India operates 7,180 MW of pumped storage capacity, with plans for an additional 60,000 MW, primarily driven by private investors.
The Union Ministry of Power has issued guidelines to ensure competitive bidding for PSPs, but issues persist regarding land use in Scheduled Areas, as ruled by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court's Samata case underscores that resources should not be allocated to non-tribals in these zones. The potential for ecological degradation and breaches of the Prevention of Corruption Act could pose risks to investors and the environment.
