Connect Launches Project for Buffer Zones to Improve Cargo Logistics in Northern Italy
Connect has launched a project to establish buffer zones in Basso Piemonte and Bassa Lombardia to improve cargo logistics by creating collection points for containers. This initiative aims to enhance port efficiency, reduce industry costs, and decrease pollution through the use of eco-friendly transport vehicles, with a prototype test planned in Arquata, Tortona, or Rivalta. The project seeks to develop a comprehensive logistical ecosystem in Northwest Italy, supported by public-private partnerships and potential funding models.

Connect has initiated a project to create buffer zones in the Basso Piemonte and Bassa Lombardia regions to streamline cargo logistics. These zones will serve as collection points for containers, facilitating nighttime distribution to the Port of Genoa to alleviate congestion.
The project aims to enhance port efficiency, reduce costs for industries, and minimize pollution by using electric, biogas, or hydrogen vehicles for transport. The first phase includes testing a prototype in Arquata, Tortona, or Rivalta, followed by the development of a comprehensive logistical ecosystem in Northwest Italy through public-private partnerships and potential funding models similar to Ferrobonus and Marebonus. Key stakeholders, including regional officials and logistics representatives, attended the project's announcement in Genoa.
