Construction Begins on St Helens Transport Interchange with Low Carbon Steel from Italy

GREEN STEEL

Construction of the St Helens Transport Interchange has begun with the delivery of low carbon steel from Italy. This sustainable material will be used in multiple structural elements, including the main building and concourse canopies.

Approximately 90% of the project will feature this low carbon steel, which has a carbon content 60-75% lower than traditional steel. The £35 million project is funded primarily by £32 million from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and £3.25 million from the Government's Towns Fund. VINCI Building is the main contractor, with local firms involved in the construction.
