Construction Begins on Two 3,000 Ton Methanol Hybrid Container Vessels in Qingyuan, China

METHANOL

On February 6, construction began on two 3,000 ton methanol hybrid container vessels at Chenglong Shipyard in Qingyuan, China, representing the first project of this scale in the Pearl and West River basins. Jointly invested by Zhonghe Qingneng and Sunwoda Power, the vessels are classed by the China Classification Society (CCS).

They utilize a methanol refueling and electric drive configuration, combining battery propulsion with a methanol generator set. This design addresses the range limitations of fully electric inland vessels while ensuring low noise and emissions.

Sunwoda Power is providing a high-rate battery system, and Changhang Group Wuhan Electric Machinery is implementing a modular power architecture for future upgrades. CCS Shaoguan has committed to overseeing construction quality.
