The Propel NY Energy project, valued at $3.2 billion, is anticipated to start construction in 2026. This collaboration between the New York Power Authority and New York Transco will install 58 miles of underground power transmission lines in Nassau County and connect Long Island to the state power grid using 345kV lines.
The project will run through or adjacent to 18 villages and is designed to improve regional electrical reliability. Community meetings and webinars have been held to update residents. The project is in the permitting phase, with completion expected by May 2030. Reports indicate a growing risk of power disturbances on Long Island, highlighting the project's necessity.
