Court Halts Development Plans in Voslapper Groden Nord Nature Reserve
The Lüneburg Administrative Court has issued a preliminary ruling preventing the execution of a building plan affecting the Voslapper Groden Nord nature reserve. This decision impacts the proposed LNG terminal by Deutsche Grüngas und Energieversorgung GmbH, safeguarding critical habitats for endangered bird species.

On May 21, 2026, the Lüneburg Administrative Court granted a request from a coalition including NABU, Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), and BUND to suspend the execution of the building plan No. 225 proposed by the city of Wilhelmshaven. This plan was intended for an LNG terminal and other fossil energy import infrastructure in the Voslapper Groden Nord area, a designated nature and EU bird protection site.
The court's ruling halts these plans pending a decision on the legality of the building plan, which the coalition contests as unlawful. The Voslapper Groden Nord region is recognized for its international importance as a breeding habitat for various endangered bird species. The ruling is seen as a significant step for the preservation of the Natura 2000 network.
