Cuba's Matanzas Project to Convert Pig Waste into Biogas for Public Buses
A project in Martí, Matanzas aims to convert pig waste into biogas to supply public transportation fuel amid Cuba's energy crisis. The initiative will utilize biodigesters to process organic waste, producing refined gas for urban buses. With funding over 60 million pesos and support from the UNDP and EU, the project includes a 14-kilometer pipeline and infrastructure for processing. At full capacity, it could power five Yutong buses for over 22,000 residents, although challenges remain regarding infrastructure and energy shortages.

The municipality of Martí in Matanzas is launching a project to convert pig waste into biogas for public transportation, addressing Cuba's energy crisis. Biodigesters will process organic waste to produce refined biogas for urban buses.
The initiative includes a 14-kilometer gas pipeline and processing infrastructure, with funding exceeding 60 million pesos, supported by the UNDP and EU. The project aims to operate five Yutong buses serving internal routes and connecting to Cárdenas and Matanzas, benefiting over 22,000 residents. While it promises renewable energy, the impact is limited due to ongoing energy shortages and incomplete infrastructure.
