Denmark Initiates First Domestic Flight Using Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Denmark has launched its first domestic flight from Aalborg to Copenhagen powered partly by sustainable aviation fuel. Operated by Norwegian Air Shuttle, the flight utilized a fuel blend of approximately 40% sustainable aviation fuel and conventional jet fuel. This initiative aims to reduce aviation emissions, potentially cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 3,000 to 3,300 tonnes annually. The project is part of Denmark's strategy for greener aviation and aims for fossil-free domestic flights by the decade's end.

Denmark has launched its first domestic flight powered partly by sustainable aviation fuel, operated by Norwegian Air Shuttle, from Aalborg to Copenhagen. The flight used a fuel blend of about 40% sustainable aviation fuel, derived from renewable sources like used cooking oil, and 60% conventional jet fuel.
This initiative could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 3,000 to 3,300 tonnes annually. The project is part of Denmark's broader strategy to reduce transport emissions and achieve fossil-free domestic flights by 2030. Although sustainable aviation fuel is significantly more expensive than traditional fuel, government support has made this route commercially viable without raising ticket prices.
