DIAMFAB Launches Europe's First Industrial Pilot Line for Diamond Semiconductor Wafers in Grenoble
Grenoble-based startup DIAMFAB has inaugurated a 750 m² industrial base for diamond semiconductor wafer production, marking Europe's first facility of its kind. Funded by €4 million, the site aims to establish a European supply chain for this advanced material, enhancing capabilities in power electronics and quantum technologies. The facility, developed over four years, plans to produce tens of thousands of wafers by 2028. DIAMFAB has also raised €8.7 million in total funding, partnering with major industry players to strengthen the European semiconductor landscape.

DIAMFAB has inaugurated a 750 m² industrial base in Grenoble for diamond semiconductor wafer production, the first of its kind in Europe. The facility, funded by €4 million, aims to create a European industrial supply chain for diamond, which has superior electrical and thermal properties.
By 2028, the site is expected to produce tens of thousands of wafers. This development comes as traditional semiconductor materials face physical limits. DIAMFAB has raised a total of €8.7 million, supported by private and public funding, and has partnerships with major companies like Schneider Electric and STMicroelectronics. The project is part of a broader strategy to enhance European technological sovereignty in semiconductors.
