DiamLab Collaborates to Develop Diamond-based Semiconductors for Power Electronics

SEMICONDUCTOR

DiamLab, a joint initiative by DIAMFAB, University Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble INP-UGA, and CNRS, is developing diamond-based semiconductors for power electronics. Established in 2025, it builds on work from the 2019 formation of DiamFab.

The lab focuses on doping diamond with boron to improve conductivity, utilizing a vapor-phase synthesis process. This approach offers advantages like reduced heat loss and lighter weight. Current efforts include increasing wafer sizes for mass production and investigating nitrogen doping for quantum sensors, which produce single photons and have applications in magnetic field measurement.
