DNV Signs Long-Term CDR Agreement with Carbon Centric for 40,000 Tonnes CO2 Removal
DNV has entered a long-term carbon dioxide removal (CDR) agreement with Norway's Carbon Centric to deliver 10,000 tonnes of CDR annually for four years starting in 2028. This agreement supports the development of a carbon capture plant that will tackle approximately 30,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, integrated with a bioenergy facility by Solor Bioenergi at the Kirkenaer site in southeast Norway.
The plant will utilize amine-based technology for carbon capture from flue gas, with captured CO2 liquefied for geological storage. The deal represents a three-digit million NOK commitment and is Carbon Centric's largest CDR agreement to date. Carbon Centric aims to reach a Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Kirkenaer BECCS project in 2026, with a long-term goal of achieving 1 million tonnes of CO2 capture capacity annually by 2030.
