Durham's Seaham Garden Village Implements Ultra-Low Carbon Heating Initiative
Durham's Seaham Garden Village is launching a mine water district heat network that utilizes geothermal energy from disused coal mines for ultra-low carbon heating. The initiative, spearheaded by Durham County Council and partners, includes enhancements to the Energy Centre at Dawdon and infrastructure development by Lumsden & Carroll. Additionally, plans for 211 supported housing apartments have been submitted for council approval.

Seaham Garden Village in Durham is developing a mine water district heat network for ultra-low carbon heating using geothermal energy from disused coal mines. Led by Durham County Council, the Mining Remediation Authority, and Karbon Homes, the Energy Centre at Dawdon enhances water temperature for distribution.
Lumsden & Carroll contributed to infrastructure development, including a 1,600-metre spine road. Plans for 211 supported housing apartments have been submitted for council approval.
