Edify Energy's Green Hydrogen Project Withdrawn from Environmental Approval Process
The Edify Green Hydrogen Project in Queensland has been removed from the federal environmental approval queue. This withdrawal raises concerns about the project's future and highlights challenges in large-scale hydrogen production.

The Edify Green Hydrogen Project (EGH2), which aimed to establish a 1 gigawatt hydrogen facility in Queensland, has been withdrawn from the federal environmental approvals process after over two years in the queue. Initially, the project proposed a 17.6 MW electrolyser, supported by a 21 MW solar and battery storage system, with an overall investment of $137 million, including $1.2 million from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.
The project's future is uncertain following recent reforms to the EPBC Act, which may necessitate a revised application. The challenges in scaling renewable hydrogen production are evident as investors shift focus to smaller projects amid technological and cost uncertainties.
