Edmonstone Village to Implement Centralized Clean Energy System
A new energy center in Edmonstone Village, Edinburgh, will provide clean heat to 709 homes, reducing carbon emissions by 294 tonnes annually. This initiative eliminates gas boilers, replacing them with air source heat pumps and a managed tariff system, ensuring stable energy costs for residents.

The Edmonstone Village project in southeast Edinburgh will connect 709 homes to a centralized clean energy center, aiming to cut carbon emissions by 294 tonnes per year. The facility, which utilizes industrial-sized air source heat pumps, will provide heat directly to each residence without the need for individual gas boilers, reducing maintenance costs and exposure to gas price volatility.
Residents will pay a heat tariff, adjusted annually against UK energy indices, while the energy center will be managed by Vital Community Energi. A backup boiler system is in place for reliability, and the scheme adheres to Heat Trust standards for consumer protection. The permanent energy center is projected to be operational by May 2026, with ongoing construction of the residential development.
