Egypt's Energy Sector: Investment and Green Initiatives for Economic Growth
Egypt aims for private investment to increase from 60% to 66% of its economy by 2030, supporting GDP growth. Sustainable energy projects are central to this strategy, with an expected rise in renewable sources to 42% of electricity generation by 2030 and 60% by 2040.

The Egyptian government projects private investment will rise to 66% of GDP by 2030, up from 60% in FY 2025/2026. Sustainable energy ventures are critical, with renewable sources expected to contribute 42% of electricity generation by 2030.
The government is promoting a Green Hydrogen Strategy, targeting $60 billion in investments to secure 8% of the tradable market by 2040. Egypt has one green hydrogen pilot project underway and aims to establish a low-carbon hydrogen economy.
Additionally, the government has introduced feed-in tariffs and signed 32 Power Purchase Agreements for 1,465 MW of renewable energy. Challenges include financing transparency and meeting green finance requirements, which could hinder project development if not addressed.
