Emirates to Conduct Boeing B777 Test Flight Using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Emirates is set to perform a test flight on a Boeing B777-300ER fueled entirely by Sustainable Aviation Fuel by the end of 2022. This initiative, in collaboration with GE Aviation, aims to demonstrate the potential for significant reductions in CO2 emissions and advance industry standards for SAF use.

Emirates will conduct a test flight of a Boeing B777-300ER using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by late 2022. This initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding with GE Aviation, aiming to enhance the aviation industry's commitment to reducing CO2 emissions.
The flight will showcase how widebody commercial aircraft can operate on SAF without blending with conventional jet fuel, potentially lowering lifecycle emissions. Emirates is coordinating with various stakeholders, including regulators and aircraft manufacturers, to ensure compliance and technical feasibility.
The airline's previous SAF initiatives include flights from Chicago O'Hare in 2017 and operations using SAF under government mandates in Norway. This test flight is a critical step toward achieving certification for 100% SAF-powered flights, which could significantly impact aviation's sustainability efforts.
