Empowering Women in Renewable Energy: A Commitment from Pertamina Geothermal Energy
In a significant gathering at the Kamojang geothermal power plant in West Java, Ronald Andre P. Hutagalung, the Investor Relations Manager of Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), welcomed a delegation of female leaders from the Women in Sustainability Environment and Renewable Energy (WISER).
His message was clear: energy should not merely be seen as an industry but as a vital mission, especially for women in leadership roles. Hutagalung underscored the transformative potential of green energy, noting its positive impacts on environmental, economic, and social fronts. By supporting sustainable livelihoods, it can empower communities, particularly women.
He urged the women present to actively communicate the benefits of renewable energy to their communities, emphasizing the need for role models in both professional and personal realms who inspire others to adopt sustainable practices. Internally, PGE has embraced principles of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) with gender equality as a cornerstone, as reflected in the workforce composition where women comprise 12-13% of employees.
The event also marked a collaborative spirit, with Hutagalung expressing enthusiasm for the WISER delegation, which included 15 participants from regions as diverse as the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Sudan, and Indonesia. He highlighted the significance of the WISER program, noting that it showcases PGE's commitment to global ESG standards.
Furthermore, with Masdar holding a 15% stake in PGE, the partnership signals a robust investment in geothermal energy, reinforcing PGE’s position as a leader in the renewable energy sector. Through these initiatives, PGE aims to set a benchmark for sustainability and gender empowerment in the industry.
