Eni and QatarEnergy Expand LNG Operations in Mozambique and Uruguay
Eni is considering a third FLNG platform in Mozambique’s Rovuma basin to enhance its LNG output, alongside existing projects. QatarEnergy has acquired interests in three offshore exploration blocks in Uruguay, marking its entry into the region's upstream sector.

Eni is assessing the addition of a third floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) platform in Mozambique's Rovuma basin, which could leverage untapped reserves. The company currently operates two FLNG projects, Coral South and Coral Norte, with expected outputs surpassing 7 million tons per year.
Coral Norte, with a US$7.2 billion investment, aims for annual production of 3.6 million tons by 2028. Meanwhile, QatarEnergy has secured stakes in three offshore blocks in Uruguay, signifying its strategic expansion in South America. These developments could significantly elevate Mozambique's position in the global LNG market and enhance QatarEnergy's regional influence.
