EU Endorses Kenya's Renewable Energy Initiative at IEA Conference
Kenya's Green Resilient Electricity System Program, backed by the EU, aims for 100% clean power by 2030. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to boost renewable energy capacity and enhance grid efficiency, vital for socio-economic growth in Kenya.

The European Union has committed $21.7 million in grants to support Kenya's Green Resilient Electricity System Program, which aims for a complete transition to 100% clean power generation by 2030. This initiative is part of a broader investment of up to $277.8 million, developed under the EU's Global Gateway initiative in collaboration with Kenyan authorities and partners like KFW Development Bank and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The program will enhance Kenya's renewable energy generation capacity through hydro, geothermal, and solar sources, while also improving grid stability. Kenya's Energy Transition & Investment Plan (ETIP) outlines pathways to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, identifying key technologies for decarbonization. The support from the EU and other entities like the World Bank and USAID highlights the need for substantial funding to address energy access issues across Africa.
