Evonik Catalysts Advances Altmark Lithium Extraction Project with Pilot Phase II Support
Evonik Catalysts is collaborating with Neptune Energy on Pilot Phase II of the Altmark Lithium Extraction Project in Germany, utilizing its Liocel® adsorbent. This phase aims to enhance direct lithium extraction from geothermal brine, vital for securing Europe's critical raw materials supply.

Evonik Catalysts is participating in Pilot Phase II of Neptune Energy's Altmark Lithium Extraction Project in northern Germany, focusing on direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology. The Altmark region has an estimated lithium resource of 43 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE), and the pilot plant can process 1,000 liters of geothermal brine daily.
Following successful preliminary testing, Evonik's Liocel® adsorbent has been chosen for evaluation in this phase. The project aims to improve lithium supply resilience in Europe. Evaluation of various adsorbent materials will continue over the coming months, assessing their suitability for future industrial-scale deployment.
