EU Proposes Regulation to Enhance Role of EUSPA in Future Space Policy
The European Commission has proposed a standalone regulation for EUSPA, aiming to secure its role in EU space policy from 2028 to 2034. This shift is crucial as it will allow the agency to expand its responsibilities and ensure operational continuity beyond the current financial framework.

On 7 April, the European Commission proposed a new regulation for the European Union Space Services Agency (EUSPA), aiming for operational stability and a clearer role in future space policy. The agency, currently linked to the 2021-2027 budget, is expected to shift to a broader operational role from 2028 to 2034, with a proposed budget increase from €525.7 million to €979.6 million.
The proposal includes plans for the agency to undertake various responsibilities, including supporting Earth observation and secure connectivity, emphasizing its importance in the defense and security sectors. This regulatory move must still navigate the EU legislative process, potentially altering the agency's final mandate and resources.
