Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir Contracts Finalized for 2029 Completion
All contracts for the Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir have been executed, ensuring completion by 2029, five years ahead of schedule. This significant advancement is a result of a 2025 agreement allowing Florida to take a leading role in the project, thereby accelerating restoration efforts and improving water management in the region.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced the successful execution of all federally funded contracts for the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir, targeting completion by 2029. This project, key to the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, aims to store and manage water from Lake Okeechobee to enhance ecosystem health and reduce coastal discharges.
Construction includes an inflow pump station capable of moving 3 billion gallons daily, with costs reduced through state leadership on related projects. Since 2019, Florida has allocated nearly $8 billion towards Everglades restoration, with an additional $1.4 billion proposed for 2026. The project's success could serve as a model for future environmental initiatives but requires continued collaborative efforts between state and federal agencies.
