EWE's TEWE Launches CHP and Heat Pump Project in Erkner
EWE's subsidiary TEWE has implemented a renewable heating project in Erkner, Brandenburg, featuring large-scale heat pumps and a biomethane CHP plant. The project aims to enhance the efficiency of district heating while achieving over 50% renewable energy use.

In mid-September 2025, TEWE commissioned a new hybrid heating system in Erkner, comprised of two large-scale heat pumps and a biomethane CHP plant. This project, developed in collaboration with 2G Energy, generates approximately 10,000 MWh of heat annually, and since June 2025, has produced around 2,400 MWh of electricity fed into the public grid.
The system operates flexibly according to electricity price signals, with heat pumps activated during low electricity price periods. The total investment for this project was approximately 2.5 million euros, partially funded by the Federal Funding Scheme for Efficient Heating Networks. Future plans include converting existing natural gas facilities to renewable technologies in the region, indicating a broader shift towards climate-friendly energy solutions.
