Exolum, Methanex, and Ørsted Launch UK's First Bio-Methanol Storage at Port of Immingham
Exolum, Methanex Corporation, and Ørsted have launched the UK's first bio-methanol storage and supply service at the Port of Immingham. This service aims to support decarbonisation in maritime transport despite a recent delay in the IMO's Net Zero Framework vote. Exolum will provide storage infrastructure, Methanex will supply bio-methanol, and Ørsted will utilize the service for its offshore wind farm maintenance. The project addresses domestic shipping's significant CO₂ emissions, marking a step forward in reducing emissions in the maritime sector.

Exolum, Methanex Corporation, and Ørsted have launched the UK's first commercially ready bio-methanol storage and supply service at the Port of Immingham, the UK's largest port by cargo volume. The initiative aims to advance maritime decarbonisation despite the International Maritime Organization's recent deferral of its Net Zero Framework vote.
Exolum will provide the necessary storage and fuelling infrastructure, while Methanex will supply the bio-methanol. Ørsted plans to use this service for its North Sea offshore wind farm maintenance vessels. Domestic shipping in the UK constitutes 4.7% of transport-related CO₂ emissions, making this project a crucial step towards addressing shipping emissions.
