FADA Calls for VAT Reforms and EV Infrastructure Development in Jammu & Kashmir
FADA advocates for a reduction in VAT on CNG in Jammu & Kashmir to enhance fuel affordability and promote cleaner energy solutions amid the global energy crisis. The organization emphasizes the need for robust EV infrastructure as part of the local smart city initiatives.

FADA Chairperson Sanjay Aggarwal has urged for reforms in the high Value Added Tax (VAT) on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Jammu & Kashmir, currently set at 21%, making it costly compared to neighboring regions. The disparity in VAT rates—Delhi's exemption, Punjab's 3%, and Haryana's 5%—impedes the adoption of CNG as a cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel.
Aggarwal further highlighted the necessity of developing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure within the Jammu and Srinagar Smart City Project and under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). Additionally, he stressed the need for a reliable electricity supply for automobile showrooms and service centers, which currently rely on diesel or petrol generators due to frequent power outages.
