FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Partners with Japan for Abuja Master Plan Review by 2050
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced a partnership with Japan to review the 1979 Abuja Master Plan, extending its vision to 2050. This collaboration was discussed during a visit by Japanese officials, including Ambassador Suzuki Hideo and JICA Chief Representative Ishigame Keiji. Wike emphasized Japan's historical contributions to Nigeria, particularly in education and infrastructure. The initiative aims to enhance urban development and sustainability, with significant investments outlined for infrastructure projects.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will undergo a major transformation as Minister Nyesom Wike announced a partnership with Japan to review the 1979 Abuja Master Plan, aiming for completion by 2050. This initiative was introduced during a visit by Japanese Ambassador Suzuki Hideo and JICA Chief Representative Ishigame Keiji.
Wike acknowledged Japan's vital role in shaping Abuja and confirmed continued collaboration in various sectors. JICA plans to enhance infrastructure, with a $9 million solar power project, $11 million for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, and $12 million for the power grid stabilization. The review will be managed by five technical working groups, with foundational work beginning in 2026 and full strategies by 2027.
