Finland Seeks EU Funds for Drone Systems, Signs Howitzer Deal with South Korea
Finland is applying for €35 million from the EU's Border Management and Visa Policy Instrument for drone detection systems. Additionally, a €546.8 million deal with South Korea for self-propelled howitzers will enhance military capabilities.

Finland is pursuing €35 million in EU funding to procure systems aimed at detecting and countering drones, with a focus on enhancing border security along the eastern border and the Gulf of Finland. If approved, the Border Guard would implement the acquisitions primarily between 2027 and 2029, with the EU covering 90% of the costs.
Separately, Finland's Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with South Korea for 112 surplus K9 self-propelled howitzers valued at approximately €546.8 million, which will modernize its artillery capabilities. This procurement aligns with Finland's long-term military modernization efforts. The integration of these systems is expected to significantly improve operational effectiveness against emerging threats.
