Florida Secures Funding for Air Taxi Infrastructure Development
Florida is advancing plans for an aerial highway network connecting the Treasure Coast to South Florida, supported by new state funding. The initiative, authorized under HB 1093, enables full funding for public vertiport projects, facilitating the development of air taxi services across the region.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) aims to establish an aerial highway network to connect major metropolitan areas, with a focus on public airports along the I-4 corridor. Plans include the construction of vertiports in cities such as Sarasota, Tampa, and Orlando, with initial passenger projections between 220,000 and 1.4 million by 2027 and potentially rising to 18.7 million by 2050.
Archer Aviation is set to develop vertiports at Witham Field and Apogee Golf Club, while Skyports Infrastructure's plans for Vero Beach Regional Airport have been put on hold due to land use changes. The project may enhance regional transport efficiency but faces challenges in execution and partnerships.
