Fortis and Kontrolmatik Begin Construction of Noćaj 1 Solar Power Plant in Serbia
Fortis Renewable Energy BV and Turkish company Kontrolmatik have commenced construction on the Noćaj 1 solar power plant near Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, which will feature a 90 MW capacity and a 36 MWh battery energy storage system. This project is part of a larger solar portfolio totaling approximately 270 MW and is expected to be one of the largest solar initiatives in Europe. Fortis is also advancing three wind projects in Serbia, contributing to the country's renewable energy landscape.

In early 2026, the Noćaj 1 solar power plant project near Sremska Mitrovica commenced construction after the signing of an EPC contract between Turkish company Kontrolmatik and Fortis Renewable Energy BV. The project will feature a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 90 MW and a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 36 MWh.
This investment is significant for renewable energy in Serbia and includes a total solar portfolio of approximately 270 MW, which also encompasses the Noćaj 2 plant. Fortis Energy, based in the Netherlands, previously acquired a 180 MW solar project with BESS in summer 2024.
The solar park will occupy 300 hectares and is projected to be one of the five largest projects of its kind in Europe. Additionally, Fortis is developing three wind projects in Serbia with a total capacity of 481 MW and owns five biogas plants totaling 21 MW.
