France Advances Quantum and Semiconductor Initiatives Amid Global Competition
The French government announces a €1 billion investment to bolster its quantum computing strategy and a €550 million commitment for semiconductor technologies. This funding aims to enhance sovereignty in critical technologies and counter rising dependencies on foreign suppliers.

France is mobilizing nearly €3 billion over five years to advance its quantum computing capabilities and semiconductor technologies. This includes an immediate €1 billion boost to the national quantum strategy, supported by the France 2030 plan, and a €550 million contribution to the European Advanced Semiconductor Technologies initiative.
The objective is to strengthen the nation's technological sovereignty and reduce dependencies on foreign technology, particularly from the U.S. and Taiwan. With over 90% of advanced semiconductor production centered in Taiwan, France faces significant challenges in achieving its 20% production target by 2030. The next 18-24 months are critical for establishing a sovereign European value chain in technology.
