Fraunhofer IZM has developed a compact inverter that outputs 500kW with 99% efficiency, commissioned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The inverter's design, occupying just one liter, incorporates twelve SiC semiconductors per embedded power module and innovative cooling and connection techniques.
Key features include extruded aluminum coolers for efficient heat exchange and laser welding to minimize inductance. This inverter surpasses existing technologies in power output and efficiency. The presentation at PCIM Europe 2026 will showcase its potential impact on the electromobility sector and production economics.
