FTI Warns of US Section 301 Scrutiny on Thai Electronics Amid $26bn Trade Surplus

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) cautions that Thailand's expanding trade surplus with the US, now at $71 billion, raises the risk of sanctions under Section 301 of the US Trade Act. The country has moved from the 11th to the 7th largest contributor to the US trade deficit, with the surplus growing from $45 billion in 2024.
This rapid increase has been linked to exporters accelerating shipments to avoid potential tariffs. Key sectors at risk, notably electronics and semiconductors, are critical components in the global supply chain.
