Gatineau Explores Local Regulations Amid BAPE Request Delay for Hydrogen Pipeline
Gatineau is examining regulations for a proposed hydrogen pipeline as it awaits Quebec's response on a BAPE hearing, pending for eight months. The city is considering establishing its own framework to ensure safety for residents while the provincial request remains stalled.
Gatineau is evaluating its regulatory approach towards the proposed 22 km hydrogen pipeline by Enbridge Gaz while awaiting a response from Quebec regarding a BAPE hearing request. The project aims to transport hydrogen from the ERCO Mondial plant in Buckingham to two local sites.
The city council unanimously requested a BAPE due to safety concerns expressed by residents, following initial public consultations two years prior. A recent provincial response indicated that the project does not require an environmental impact assessment. In light of this, Gatineau is developing local regulations to manage pipeline safety in residential areas, addressing community concerns amid ongoing provincial delays.
