Ghanaian Stowaways Rescued in Lagos After Failed Bid to Reach Europe
Three Ghanaian nationals were rescued in Lagos after attempting to stow away on a merchant vessel bound for Europe. Their experience highlights the dangers of illegal migration and the ongoing collaboration among security agencies in Nigeria to combat such activities.

Three Ghanaian stowaways were discovered in the rudder compartment of the MT ANATOLIA in Lagos after five days at sea. The individuals, aged 22 to 26, attempted the voyage from Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, driven by economic hardships and the desire for better opportunities.
They gained access to the vessel under the belief it was headed to Europe, but were found by the crew and subsequently rescued by the Nigerian Navy. The Navy handed them over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for processing and potential repatriation to Ghana. This incident underscores the risks associated with illegal migration and highlights the collaborative efforts of security agencies to ensure maritime safety.
