GlobalFoundries and Renesas Expand US Chip Production Partnership
GlobalFoundries and Renesas Electronics have deepened their partnership in a multi-billion-dollar deal to enhance semiconductor production in the US. The agreement will provide Renesas access to GF's process technologies for system-on-chips and microcontrollers, with tape-outs starting in mid-2026. Initial production will occur in the US, expanding later to Germany and Singapore. This initiative aims to strengthen supply chain resilience amid increasing demand for chips in automotive and industrial applications.

GlobalFoundries (GF) and Renesas Electronics Corporation have expanded their partnership to boost semiconductor manufacturing for smart vehicles and industrial systems through a multi-billion-dollar deal. Renesas will access GF's chip manufacturing technologies, with initial tape-outs planned for mid-2026.
Production will first occur in the US and later extend to GF facilities in Germany and Singapore. This collaboration aims to enhance supply chain resilience and meet rising demand for chips in electrified vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems. The US semiconductor market is projected to grow to $140 billion by 2030.
