The center currently occupies 13,000 square feet, with plans for expansion and potential establishment of a fabrication laboratory, enhancing employment opportunities in the region.

GlobalFoundries has begun advanced semiconductor operations at its facility in Salt Lake Sector V, Kolkata, marking a significant step in developing a semiconductor ecosystem in eastern India. The center, which started operations last year, focuses on semiconductor design and research, collaborating with local academic institutions and startups, and aims to offer internship programs for local engineering students.
Currently operating in 13,000 square feet at STPI IT Park, the company plans to expand and may establish a fabrication laboratory, increasing job opportunities. This development aligns with efforts to enhance semiconductor capabilities in India following discussions on technology cooperation with the United States.
