Gondan Shipbuilders to Deliver Hybrid Tug with Steerprop Propulsion for Østensjø Rederi
Gondan Shipbuilders has chosen Steerprop's SP 50 WD propulsors for a methanol-ready tug for Østensjø Rederi, supporting offshore operations in Norway. The 50m vessel will feature Caterpillar engines, hybrid propulsion, and is set for delivery in Q1 2028.

Gondan Shipbuilders is constructing a 50-meter methanol-ready, diesel-electric tug for Østensjø Rederi, designed for offshore operations in Norway. The vessel features hybrid propulsion with DP2-class dynamic positioning, powered by Caterpillar engines and Steerprop SP 50 WD dual-end propulsors.
The tug will achieve approximately 150 tonnes of bollard pull and operate primarily on electric power with diesel engines for additional support. Key components include two 16-cylinder Cat 3516E engines, Cat 3512E gensets, and a delivery date set for Q1 2028. The vessel will also accommodate 14 personnel.
