Gondan Shipbuilders to Deliver Hybrid Tug with Steerprop Propulsion for Østensjø Rederi

METHANOL

Gondan Shipbuilders is constructing a 50-meter methanol-ready, diesel-electric tug for Østensjø Rederi, designed for offshore operations in Norway. The vessel features hybrid propulsion with DP2-class dynamic positioning, powered by Caterpillar engines and Steerprop SP 50 WD dual-end propulsors.

The tug will achieve approximately 150 tonnes of bollard pull and operate primarily on electric power with diesel engines for additional support. Key components include two 16-cylinder Cat 3516E engines, Cat 3512E gensets, and a delivery date set for Q1 2028. The vessel will also accommodate 14 personnel.
