Great Basin geothermal potential vast, says USGS
The USGS projects Nevada's Great Basin could generate up to 135 GW of geothermal power — about 10% of U.S. electricity.
A provisional USGS assessment suggests the Great Basin region could produce up to 135 GW of baseload geothermal power—equivalent to approximately 10% of total U.S. electricity consumption—much higher than today's sub-1% contribution. Full realization depends on scaling up technologies.
