Green Bay City Council Authorizes Mayor to Finalize Lease for OneEnergy's Solar Farm Amid Cost Concerns
OneEnergy Development has expressed that it cannot afford the increased lease terms proposed by Green Bay officials for a 5-megawatt solar farm. The city’s Finance Committee suggested a $1,000 annual rate per acre for a minimum 30-year agreement, up from a previous $800, prompting the City Council to grant Mayor Eric Genrich the authority to finalize the lease. The proposed solar farm spans 35 to 40 acres, with potential access issues to Algoma Road and the nearby substation.

OneEnergy Development stated it cannot meet the increased lease costs for a 5-megawatt solar farm in Green Bay, where city officials proposed a $1,000 annual rate per acre for a minimum 30-year lease, up from $800. This prompted the City Council on February 3 to authorize Mayor Eric Genrich to finalize the lease.
The solar farm would occupy 35 to 40 acres and lacks guaranteed access to Algoma Road, necessitating approval from the state's Department of Transportation. Additionally, access to a nearby substation is uncertain, with potential costs for improvements falling on the developer. The lease discussions took place in closed session, with the Council unanimously supporting Genrich's authority to approve the terms.
