Groundwork BioAg and Mitsubishi Corporation Launch Carbon Reduction Initiatives
Groundwork BioAg's Rootella Carbon® program has generated 19,568 Verified Carbon Units, marking a significant step in carbon dioxide removal efforts. Mitsubishi Corporation's rice-paddy methane-reduction project has also received approval under Japan's J-Credit Scheme, targeting a 30% reduction in methane emissions.

Groundwork BioAg's Rootella Carbon® program reported an issuance of 19,568 Verified Carbon Units, validated by SCS Global under Verra's standards. The program facilitates participation in the voluntary carbon market for farmers through CO2 credit sales linked to mycorrhizal fungi, achieving 1.5-3.5 tCO₂e/ac annually.
The project has expanded from 9,000 acres in 2023 to over 700,000 acres in the U.S. and Canada. In Japan, Mitsubishi Corporation's rice-paddy methane-reduction initiative has been approved under the J-Credit Scheme, aiming for a 30% reduction in emissions by extending mid-season drainage periods. This creates additional revenue streams for participating growers, while incentivizing broader engagement in sustainable practices.
