Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Urges Central Government to Devolve Authority for Local Development
Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongsangbuk-do urged the central government to devolve authority and provide financial support to ensure the success of the 'Five-pole, Three-Special Growth Engine.' During a meeting hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, he emphasized the importance of strong local governance for national prosperity and proposed institutional support for integrating Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
The governor highlighted three key sectors: establishing a semiconductor complex in Gumi, advancing battery technology, and introducing a steel-only electricity rate to assist struggling steelmakers. Minister Kim Jeong-kwan confirmed that regional growth is a top priority for 2026.
