Hanover County Initiates $4 Million Water Resilience Strategy
Hanover County has launched a $4 million water resilience plan post-January 2025 crisis to enhance system reliability and emergency preparedness.

Hanover County has approved a $4 million investment to enhance its water system's reliability within the next year. The short-term plan includes portable booster pumps along Route 1 and Route 33, and upgrades to the Airport East Water Pump Station, aiming to maintain daily water service of approximately 8.4 million gallons while adding nearly 6 million gallons for emergencies.
Long-term strategies involve building a new water storage tank and evaluating a new source from the Pamunkey River over the next 20 years. These measures are intended to improve emergency preparedness and support future growth, reducing reliance on the Richmond water source.
