HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Engine & Machinery has confirmed that its HiMSEN engine operates stably on ethanol fuel. Testing was conducted on the 4-stroke methanol dual-fuel engine platform (H32DF-LM), focusing on startability, combustion stability, power output stability, and exhaust gas characteristics.

The tests ensured stable operation at all load points while utilizing existing methanol engine hardware. Ethanol is considered a promising alternative fuel due to its production from bio-based sources and potential for significant carbon reduction. It is gaining interest from shipowners and the shipbuilding industry as a viable option amidst regional methanol supply and price fluctuations.
