Heathrow Launches Biofuel Breakfast Initiative with Heston Blumenthal
Heathrow Airport has introduced 'The Fly Up,' a biofuel breakfast in collaboration with Heston Blumenthal, to promote Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This initiative supports Heathrow's goal of Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, addressing the low awareness of SAF benefits among travelers.

Heathrow Airport's 'The Fly Up' breakfast aims to raise awareness of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) among travelers, addressing the fact that only 14% are aware of its benefits. The initiative aligns with Heathrow's goal to achieve 11% of jet fuel from SAF by 2030 and supports broader Net Zero carbon emission targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.
Used cooking oils from the breakfast are recycled into biofuels through a partnership with Quatra, showcasing a circular economy. Heathrow's operational changes include transitioning over 95% of its diesel fleet to HVO biodiesel.
Industry leaders recognize this move as essential for sustainable aviation, emphasizing the need for supportive government policies. The initiative reflects Heathrow's commitment to integrating sustainability into air travel, potentially influencing other airports to adopt similar practices.
