Heavy ODC Shipment for Tata Semiconductor Unit Arrives in Assam via Brahmaputra Waterway
The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has facilitated the transport of a 189.260 metric tonne Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC) consignment to support Tata's semiconductor unit in Assam. The cargo, which began its journey from Diamond Harbour, reached Pandu, Guwahati via National Waterway-2 and the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route. The shipment is crucial for the Rs 27,000 crore semiconductor project in Morigaon, showcasing the role of inland waterways in cost-effective and environmentally sustainable logistics.

A 189.260 metric tonne Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC) consignment has successfully arrived at Pandu, Guwahati, facilitated by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). This shipment is intended for the Tata Semiconductor Assembly facility in Morigaon, Assam, as part of a Rs 27,000 crore project.
The cargo commenced from Diamond Harbour and was transported on the vessel MV Chitrangada through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route, entering Assam via Dhubri. It is set to be unloaded at Silghat before final delivery. This movement underscores the growing reliability of inland waterways for heavy cargo transport, offering a cost-effective and greener alternative while supporting industrial growth in the Northeast.
