HG&E's LNG Project Approved to Enhance Gas Supply Reliability in Holyoke
The Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board has approved HG&E's Liquefied Natural Gas Infrastructure and Resiliency Project, aimed at enhancing natural gas supply reliability. This project is critical for meeting increasing demand during peak periods, particularly during severe weather events.
The Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board has approved HG&E's Liquefied Natural Gas Infrastructure and Resiliency Project, which includes the installation of a fifth LNG storage tank and a new vaporization system at the West Holyoke facility. This project is expected to be operational by late 2027 or early 2028 and will bolster HG&E's capacity to provide natural gas during peak demand, particularly in cold weather.
The facility currently supplies about 40% of HG&E's natural gas needs during peak times. Importantly, no new pipelines will be necessary, minimizing construction impacts. While the natural gas moratorium remains, this approval is projected to support economic development and job growth in Holyoke.
