Hitachi Energy Delivers Record 446-Tonne Transformer from Sweden to China for UHVDC Project
Hitachi Energy has shipped a world-record 446-tonne transformer from Ludvika, Sweden, to China for the Gansu-Zhejiang transmission link. The transformer, measuring 107 meters in length, will be transported by barge and ocean vessel to Shanghai, with a journey of approximately four and a half months. It is designed for ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission using advanced VSC technology. This transformer is the largest of seven planned for the project, with production of the remaining units occurring in China.

Hitachi Energy has commenced the delivery of a 446-tonne transformer from Ludvika, Sweden, to China, intended for the Gansu-Zhejiang transmission link. The transformer, measuring 107 meters, is transported on a specialized beam trailer, as rail transport was not feasible.
Following a barge transfer in Köping, it will be shipped to Shanghai via Maersk. This unit, the largest of seven for the project, utilizes ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) and voltage sourced converter (VSC) technology to facilitate renewable energy transmission. Production of additional transformers will take place in China under Hitachi's supervision.
