Hong Kong's San Tin Technopole Development Plan to Boost GDP by HK$250 Billion and Create 300,000 Jobs

The Hong Kong government has unveiled the Conceptual Outline of the Development Plan for the Innovation and Technology Industry in the San Tin Technopole, a 210-hectare project expected to contribute at least HK$250 billion ($32 billion) to the GDP annually and create over 300,000 jobs upon completion. The technopole will enhance commercialization pathways for research results, focusing on midstream advanced manufacturing.

Industry 4.0 technologies could improve productivity by 0.8 to 1.4 percent annually. Plans include smart logistics infrastructure and autonomous transit systems to integrate the Greater Bay Area. The region's innovation ecosystem is supported by the establishment of IP financing sandboxes and patent evaluation services.

The technopole aims to lead in sectors like commercial space technology and green methanol production, while proposed transport improvements could facilitate access for international experts. Strategic enhancements could position San Tin Technopole as a critical hub for global innovation.
