Hungary Mobilizes HUF 41 Billion for Geothermal Energy Development under Jedlik Ányos Energy Program
Hungary's Ministry of Energy has announced significant support for geothermal energy development through the Jedlik Ányos Energy Program, mobilizing HUF 41 billion (EUR 106 million) to accelerate the sector. The program includes non-repayable subsidies totaling HUF 10 billion (EUR 26 million) for initial well drilling, with applications opening in March 2026.
The program aims to enhance energy self-sufficiency, affordability, and sustainability. It features calls for proposals for industrial energy storage, biogas production, and district heating systems. A separate HUF 12 billion proposal will fund grid-connected geothermal electricity generation, while HUF 19 billion in interest-free loans will support geothermal investments. The National Geothermal Energy Utilization Concept targets a doubling of domestic geothermal energy use by 2030, building on quadrupled production since 2010.
